Best Sites to Sell Your Car in Costa Rica (2026)

For most private sellers, CRAutos and Facebook Marketplace are the two channels with the most reach in Costa Rica, and Encuentra24 is the third, free option with a large general audience. PuroCarro, Mercado Libre, MoviAutos and AutoMarket CR work well as extra channels, and if you would rather not handle the sale yourself, consignment or a dealer trade-in are the alternatives.

Disclosure: PuroCarro publishes this guide and is one of the sites on the list. That is why we spell out the criteria, cite each site's own data and say where other sites are stronger than ours. Prices and figures were checked on October 2, 2026; confirm current rates on each site before you pay.

How we ranked the sites

The order reflects how useful each site is to a private seller, not who wrote the guide. The criteria:

  • Cost to list: whether a basic listing is free and what the paid options cost, as of October 2026.
  • Photos: how many a listing allows. Photos of the interior, engine bay and odometer build trust.
  • Reach: how much inventory or audience can actually be checked. Almost no site publishes verifiable traffic; when a figure comes from a site's own marketing, we say so.
  • Seller tools: price references, the filters buyers use, and how easy the listing is to share.
  • Risk and effort: how much work falls on you and what safety warnings exist.

1. CRAutos

CRAutos is one of the best-known car classifieds sites in the country. It says it has run since 1998, and on October 2, 2026 it showed about 11,700 vehicles, 5,484 of them offering financing. Buyers can filter by province, by financing and by whether the seller accepts a trade-in, and the press quotes its Bluebook price data.

The basic ad shows no price, but it waits until CRAutos phones you to confirm it. Automatic confirmation costs ₡2,260, a destacado (highlighted) ad ₡9,605 and super destacado ₡12,430, IVA included. Ads take 5 photos, or 8 with destacado. The company is being sold to Move Tech International; El Financiero reported on September 8, 2026 that it continues operating normally. Full comparison: PuroCarro vs CRAutos.

2. Facebook Marketplace

Marketplace wins on audience: many buyers are already on Facebook, and posting from a phone takes minutes. Third-party guides say local-pickup listings, vehicles included, carry no fee, though we could not confirm that on a Meta page for Costa Rica. The vehicle form asks for year, make, model, mileage, transmission, description and price, and you can share the listing to buy-and-sell groups.

The drawback is safety. In May 2025 the OIJ (Costa Rica's judicial investigation police) warned about fake profiles advertising cars below market value to rob buyers who show up with cash. As a seller, expect wary buyers and screen your contacts carefully. More detail: PuroCarro vs Facebook Marketplace.

3. Encuentra24

Encuentra24 is a general classifieds site (property, jobs, vehicles and more), founded in Panama in 2005, that absorbed OLX's Costa Rica business in 2020. Listing a vehicle is free according to the site, and prices show in both dollars and colones. Paid placements labelled "Resaltado", "Destacado" and "Exclusivo" exist, but we could not confirm their prices for cars in Costa Rica.

Its strength is general reach; in 2026 sponsored content it claims more than 5 million monthly visits across all categories. Its strongest category is real estate, so your car competes for attention with other kinds of listing. Comparison: PuroCarro vs Encuentra24.

4. PuroCarro

PuroCarro is a cars-only marketplace. The free plan gives you one active listing with up to 20 photos, and entering your plate fills in the car's details so you only need to review them. When there are at least 20 similar listings, each ad shows how its price compares with the market, which helps a buyer see that your price is fair. Shared links show the photo, price and details in WhatsApp and Facebook, and every listing has its own page indexed by Google.

What it does not offer: it lacks CRAutos' history and inventory, publishes no audience figures, and does not inspect cars. For more visibility, Boost costs $7 for 7 days on the homepage, with no subscription. See the plans on pricing or start at sell.

5. Mercado Libre

Mercado Libre Costa Rica has a vehicles section that works as classifieds: according to its help page, buyers contact the seller. According to its help centre, as of October 2026 the free tier lasts 60 days with low exposure and you can hold only one free listing at a time; paid tiers cost ₡1,500 (Plata), ₡2,300 (Oro) and ₡5,000 (Oro Premium). All include 14 photos plus video.

The weak spot is that we could not verify how many cars are actually listed in Costa Rica, and the help centre carries a second price table with different numbers. Confirm the rate before paying. Comparison: PuroCarro vs Mercado Libre.

6. MoviAutos

MoviAutos has a free plan with no expiry and immediate publication, capped at 5 photos. The MAX plan, at ₡7,500, features the ad for 60 days, allows unlimited photos and promotes it on Facebook and Instagram. It also has a car-value tool and insurance quotes. We could not confirm the size of its inventory. Comparison: PuroCarro vs MoviAutos.

7. AutoMarket CR

AutoMarket CR is a new site: listing is free, with no commission and up to 20 photos, and listings carry a "Placa verificada" (verified plate) badge, though we could not confirm what it checks. When we looked it showed few listings, so for now it is an extra channel rather than a main one. Comparison: PuroCarro vs AutoMarket CR.

8. KarClick

KarClick launched in August 2026 with an AI shopping assistant and brings together inventory from dealers such as Purdy Motor, Grupo Q, AutoStar, Cofiño and Quality Motors, and also takes listings from private sellers of used cars. Its strength is dealer stock, so it is most useful for checking your price against dealer cars; check the site for its listing terms. Comparison: PuroCarro vs KarClick.

If you would rather not sell it yourself

Consignment: Top Cars CR

Top Cars CR is a lot in Guadalupe that sells cars on consignment. It charges 5% plus IVA on cars over $20,000, or a flat $1,000 below that. The contract bars you from using other sales channels and charges $200 if the car sells elsewhere. In return the lot handles buyers and offers financing and legal paperwork. See PuroCarro vs Top Cars CR.

Trading in at a dealer

Several dealers take used cars as part payment: Veinsa runs a "Usado por Usado" trade-in with an appraisal in under 30 minutes, and AutoStar says in sponsored content that it accepts used vehicles toward a purchase. It is usually the fastest route with no strangers involved, but the dealer has to resell the car, so compare the offer with market value before you accept. More context in marketplace vs dealer-backed used cars.

Tips to sell faster

  • Price against the market. Check the minimum, maximum, average and median for your model in the PuroCarro Bluebook, then compare with similar ads on CRAutos or Encuentra24. An out-of-range price drives serious buyers away.
  • Use every photo slot you get. Shoot in daylight with a clean car: all four sides, interior, dashboard, odometer, engine and tyres. Where a site caps you at 5, pick the ones that show the car's real condition.
  • List on more than one site. One ad on CRAutos or Marketplace plus a free ad elsewhere widens your reach at little cost. An exclusive consignment rules this out.
  • Have your documents ready. Buyers will likely ask for a Registro Nacional certification, and the transfer (traspaso) is signed before a notary with marchamo and RTV up to date. The steps are in how to buy a used car in Costa Rica, and you can look up your car's marchamo.
  • Protect the payment. Prosecutors have warned about fake bank transfer receipts; confirm the money is in your account before you sign or hand over the keys.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best site to sell a car in Costa Rica?

For reach, CRAutos and Facebook Marketplace are the strongest: CRAutos for its cars-only inventory and Marketplace for its audience. Most sellers do best by listing on two or three sites at once.

Where can I list my car for free in Costa Rica?

As of October 2026, Encuentra24, PuroCarro, MoviAutos and AutoMarket CR offer a free basic listing, and Mercado Libre allows one free listing for 60 days. Third-party guides say Facebook Marketplace charges nothing. On CRAutos the basic ad shows no price but waits for a confirmation call.

How many photos can I upload on each site?

CRAutos allows 5 photos (8 with destacado), MoviAutos 5 on its free plan, Mercado Libre 14 plus video, and PuroCarro and AutoMarket CR up to 20. We could not confirm the limits for Encuentra24 or Facebook Marketplace.

Is selling on consignment worth it?

It can be if you have no time to deal with buyers. At Top Cars CR the fee is 5% plus IVA above $20,000, or a flat $1,000 below, and you cannot sell through other channels while the agreement runs.

Why isn't PuroCarro ranked first?

Because we ranked by usefulness to you. CRAutos, Facebook Marketplace and Encuentra24 have more history or more reach. PuroCarro adds full photo sets, price context and a free plan, and it works well alongside them.

Conclusion

There is no single best site: CRAutos gives you buyers who are specifically looking for cars, Facebook Marketplace a very wide audience, and Encuentra24 a free ad with general reach. Adding a free channel such as PuroCarro, with 20 photos and price context, costs little and can bring in more buyers. If you would rather not handle the sale, weigh a consignment fee against a dealer's trade-in offer before you decide.
