PuroCarro vs Encuentra24: General Classifieds or a Cars-Only Site?
If you already use Encuentra24 to look for an apartment, furniture or a job, listing your car there too makes sense: basic vehicle ads are free and the site says it has a large regional audience. If you want a site that only does cars, where each listing shows how its price compares with similar cars, that's what PuroCarro is for.
The core difference is focus. Encuentra24 covers every kind of classified, and real estate is where it's strongest. PuroCarro is only cars.
What Encuentra24 is
Encuentra24 started in Panama in 2005 and now runs real estate, vehicle, job and general listings in several countries. In July 2020, OLX Group merged its Panama, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Guatemala businesses into Encuentra24, and the Costa Rican platforms were brought under one brand. It is now owned by Frontier Digital Ventures, an Australian-listed classifieds group.
It has genuine strengths:
- Audience. In sponsored 2026 content in La Nación, the company says it gets more than 5 million visits a month. That's the company's own figure, not an independent measurement.
- Free vehicle ads. A sponsored 2021 article and Encuentra24's own support content both say vehicle listings in Costa Rica are free; real estate is the paid category.
- Two currencies. Listings show prices in both dollars and colones.
- Dealers and private sellers. The used-car section mixes agency listings with individual sellers.
- A price tool of its own. In 2021 the company promoted a "Blue Book" of average prices by make and model.
In May 2026, again in sponsored content, Encuentra24 announced a relaunch with AI natural-language search and a personalised feed.
On ownership: in Q3 2024, Frontier Digital Ventures reported Encuentra24 revenue up 2% year on year and placed its Latin American unit, which includes Encuentra24, under strategic review. We found no public information on how that review ended.
How PuroCarro is different
The whole site is cars. On Encuentra24, car shoppers share the platform with people hunting for apartments and jobs, and the company's own 2026 sponsored piece leads with its real-estate numbers. On PuroCarro, the filters, alerts and listing pages are built only for vehicles: make, model, year, price, fuel, transmission, body type, mileage and location, plus map search.
Each car's price, in context. An average-price guide tells you roughly what a model is worth. PuroCarro's comparison goes further and places this listing's price against up to 50 similar listings from the last 12 months (same make, similar model, within 2 years and 50,000 km) on a three-band bar. Cars in the cheapest 25% get a "Below average" label. It shows only when there are at least 20 comparable listings, and it doesn't account for condition, extras or history. For a general lookup by make, model and year, the free Bluebook shows minimum, maximum, average and median prices plus mileage stats.
Published prices. Encuentra24 sells visibility: its used-car section shows ads labelled "Resaltado", "Destacado" and "Exclusivo". We couldn't confirm current rates for car ads in Costa Rica, so check them on its site before paying. PuroCarro's plans are on its pricing page: the free Pura Vida plan with 1 active listing, Turbo at $9.99 a month for 5 listings, Empresarial at $99.99 a month for 100, and a $7, 7-day Boost that works on the free plan.

Before you negotiate: is the price fair?
This works for any car you find, whether it's on Encuentra24, PuroCarro or elsewhere.
- Look it up in the Bluebook. Search the make, model and year in the PuroCarro Bluebook. If the asking price is above the maximum, ask the seller what justifies it.
- Find the same model on PuroCarro. Open a similar listing and look at the comparison bar to see whether comparable cars are being offered for more or less.
- Check the fiscal value by plate. The marchamo lookup shows the marchamo amount and the car's fiscal value. That matters because transfer tax is 2.5% of whichever is higher, Hacienda's fiscal value or the sale price, and stamp duties add roughly another 1% on the same base.
- Add the transfer costs. Notary fees run 1% to 2% plus IVA, with a ₡60,500 minimum. By custom the buyer pays, though no rule requires it.
- Compare in one currency. If one car is listed in dollars and another in colones, convert at the day's rate before deciding which is cheaper.
