PuroCarro vs CarrosUsados.cr: What You Pay, and Who You Pay
If you are a buyer who likes very detailed filters, CarrosUsados.cr is worth a search alongside other sites. If you are a seller who wants to know the price before creating an account, and to know which company is behind the site, PuroCarro publishes both: plans are on a public pricing page, and the site is operated by Timechain LLC.
Both sites are multi-seller used car classifieds for Costa Rica. The difference this page focuses on is transparency: what each site tells you before you hand over your details and your card.
What CarrosUsados.cr shows, as of October 2026
CarrosUsados.cr is branded "Autos Usados Costa Rica". It is not a single dealer: its footer says the trademarks and car listings belong to their respective owners. It runs on a WordPress car-dealer theme, which is why you will see dealer-style widgets such as test drive, trade-in and loan calculator buttons on a classifieds site.
What we observed on 2 October 2026:
- Inventory: the search page showed 333 matches over 34 pages. A separate "Autos Vendidos" page showed 21 sold cars.
- Cost to list: paid. The listing flow includes a "Pagar por Anuncio" (pay per listing) step, and the plans are only shown after you log in. We could not see the prices.
- Operator: no company name, legal ID, phone number or address appears on the site.
- Listing dates: cards show photos, year, make, model, price (sometimes with a discount), mileage, fuel, engine and seller name, but no posting date.
It also has real strengths. Its search filters are deep: price, mileage, fuel, year from 1960, transmission, interior and exterior colour, body style, drivetrain, condition, features and keyword. Prices are in colones, sellers can add video and a map location, and there is a blog with Costa Rica buying content.

PuroCarro's prices, in full
Because the comparison is about transparency, here is the whole price list from the PuroCarro pricing page, in US dollars:
- Pura Vida, free: 1 active listing, direct contact with buyers, image sharing.
- Turbo, $9.99/month ($8.33/month billed yearly): 5 active listings and custom tags on listings.
- Empresarial, $99.99/month ($83.33/month billed yearly): 100 active listings and a business banner.
- Boost, $7 one time for 7 days: your listing at the top of the homepage and a BOOST badge in search. It is not a subscription, can be extended 7 days at a time, and works on the free plan.
Payment is by card through Stripe, and subscriptions can be cancelled any time. PuroCarro takes no commission on the sale and does not buy, sell, inspect or finance cars.
Other differences that matter
Price context for buyers
When there are at least 20 comparable listings, each PuroCarro ad shows where its price falls against up to 50 similar cars from the last 12 months: the cheapest 25%, the middle 50% or the top 25%. Cars in the cheapest band carry a "Below average" label. It is a reference, not an appraisal: it does not know the car's condition or history. The Bluebook gives min, max, average and median prices by make, model and year.
Less typing for sellers
Entering the plate when you publish fills in the car's details, and autofilled fields are marked so you can check them. CarrosUsados.cr's form lists each field, from engine and drivetrain to colours and features, and also lets you add video.
Findable outside the site
Every PuroCarro listing has its own page indexed by Google, and a link shared on WhatsApp or Facebook shows the photo, price and details.
When CarrosUsados.cr makes sense
- You are a buyer and want to filter by colour, drivetrain or specific features, which CarrosUsados.cr supports in more depth.
- You want one more inventory to check while shopping. 333 cars is a modest but real selection.
- You are a seller who has already logged in, seen the plan prices and is comfortable with them.
When PuroCarro is the better choice
- You want to know what listing costs, or list for free, before you create an account.
- You want to know which company you are paying.
- You want buyers to see how your price compares with similar cars.
- You want saved-search alerts and a map search as a buyer.
Before you pay any car-listing site: a five-point check
This applies to every site, including ours.
- Can you see the price before signing up? If not, ask what you will be charged, for how long, and whether it renews automatically.
- Who runs it? Look for a company name in the footer, terms or invoice. You need it if you ever need a refund.
- How do you pay? A known card processor gives you a way to dispute a charge.
- Is there a free option to test the audience? If you can list once for free, you can judge the response before paying.
- Can buyers tell how old a listing is? If cards show no date, buyers will ask "is it still available?", so keep your listing current and remove it as soon as the car sells.
For buyers, the same logic applies to the car itself: confirm the owner and any liens with a Literal Rápida from the Registro Nacional before paying anything, and check the plate's marchamo with the free marchamo lookup.

Verdict
CarrosUsados.cr has a modest inventory and very detailed filters, which makes it a reasonable extra search for buyers. For sellers, it asks for payment while keeping its prices behind a login and not naming who runs it. PuroCarro shows its prices publicly, offers a free plan and names its operator.
